st Chronicles 9 | King James Bible |
Chapter 10 | |
| Now the Philistines fought8 against Israel; and the men of Israel fled4 from before the Philistines, and fell down4 slain in mount Gilboa. |
| And the Philistines followed hard55 after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew55 Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul. |
| And the battle went sore4 against Saul, and the archers56 7198 hit4 him, and he was wounded4 of the archers.6 |
| Then said4 Saul to his armourbearer,6 3627 Draw3 thy sword, and thrust me through3 therewith; lest these uncircumcised come4 and abuse98 me. But his armourbearer6 3627 would1 not; for he was sore afraid.1 So Saul took4 a sword, and fell4 upon it. |
| And when his armourbearer6 3627 saw4 that Saul was dead,1 he fell4 likewise on the sword, and died.4 |
| So Saul died,4 and his three sons, and all his house died1 together. |
| And when all the men of Israel that [were] in the valley saw4 that they fled,1 and that Saul and his sons were dead,1 then they forsook4 their cities, and fled:4 and the Philistines came4 and dwelt4 in them. |
| And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came4 to strip15 the slain, that they found4 Saul and his sons fallen6 in mount Gilboa. |
| And when they had stripped55 him, they took4 his head, and his armour, and sent17 into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings15 unto their idols, and to the people. |
| And they put4 his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened1 his head in the temple of Dagon. |
| And when all Jabeshgilead 1568 heard4 all that the Philistines had done1 to Saul, |
| They arose,4 all the valiant men, and took away4 the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought55 them to Jabesh, and buried4 their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted4 seven days. |
| So Saul died4 for his transgression which he committed1 against the LORD, [even] against the word of the LORD, which he kept1 not, and also for asking2 [counsel] of [one that had] a familiar spirit, to enquire2 [of it]; |
| And enquired1 not of the LORD: therefore he slew55 him, and turned55 the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse. |
