Chapter 129

A Song of degrees.
Many a time have they afflicted¹ me from my youth, may Israel now say:⁴

Many a time have they afflicted¹ me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed¹ against me.

The plowers⁶ plowed¹ upon my back: they made long⁵² their furrows. ⁴⁶¹⁸

The LORD [is] righteous: he hath cut asunder¹⁴ the cords of the wicked.

Let them all be confounded⁴ and turned¹¹ back that hate⁶ Zion.

Let them be as the grass [upon] the housetops, which withereth¹ afore it groweth up:¹

Wherewith the mower⁶ filleth¹⁴ not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves¹⁸ his bosom.

Neither do they which go by⁶ say,¹ The blessing of the LORD [be] upon you: we bless¹⁴ you in the name of the LORD.
