Proverbs 19 | King James Bible |
Chapter 20 | |
| Wine [is] a mocker,5 strong drink [is] raging:6 and whosoever is deceived6 thereby is not wise.4 |
| The fear of a king [is] as the roaring of a lion: [whoso] provoketh him to anger102 sinneth6 [against] his own soul. |
| [It is] an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.101 |
| The sluggard will not plow4 by reason of the cold; [therefore] shall he beg1 7592 4 in harvest, and [have] nothing. |
| Counsel in the heart of man [is like] deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.4 |
| Most men will proclaim4 every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?4 |
| The just [man] walketh102 in his integrity: his children [are] blessed after him. |
| A king that sitteth6 in the throne of judgment scattereth away18 all evil with his eyes. |
| Who can say,4 I have made my heart clean,14 I am pure1 from my sin? |
| Divers weights, 68 [and] divers measures, 374 both of them [are] alike abomination to the LORD. |
| Even a child is known101 by his doings, whether his work [be] pure, and whether [it be] right. |
| The hearing6 ear, and the seeing6 eye, the LORD hath made1 even both of them. |
| Love4 not sleep, lest thou come to poverty;11 open3 thine eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied3 with bread. |
| [It is] naught, [it is] naught, saith4 the buyer:6 but when he is gone5 his way, then he boasteth.101 |
| There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge [are] a precious jewel. |
| Take3 his garment that is surety1 [for] a stranger:5 and take a pledge3 of him for a strange woman. |
| Bread of deceit [is] sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled11 with gravel. |
| [Every] purpose is established11 by counsel: and with good advice make3 war. |
| He that goeth about6 [as] a talebearer revealeth6 secrets: therefore meddle101 not with him that flattereth6 with his lips. |
| Whoso curseth18 his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out4 in obscure 380 darkness. |
| An inheritance [may be] gotten hastily30 973 30 at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.29 |
| Say4 not thou, I will recompense17 evil; [but] wait16 on the LORD, and he shall save55 thee. |
| Divers weights 68 [are] an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance [is] not good. |
| Man's goings [are] of the LORD; how can a man then understand4 his own way? |
| [It is] a snare to the man [who] devoureth1 [that which is] holy, and after vows to make enquiry.15 |
| A wise king scattereth18 the wicked, and bringeth55 the wheel over them. |
| The spirit of man [is] the candle of the LORD, searching6 all the inward parts of the belly. |
| Mercy and truth preserve4 the king: and his throne is upholden1 by mercy. |
| The glory of young men [is] their strength: and the beauty of old men [is] the gray head. |
| The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so [do] stripes the inward parts of the belly. |
